This is a simple tutorial on how to take a plain, clear acrylic cover and turn it into a decorative element for your project.Supplies Needed:
- Acrylic Covers (by Zutter or another company)
- Embossing Folder
- Embossing Machine
- Alcohol Inks
- Blending Solution
- Alcohol Ink Applicator
- White Acrylic Paint or Gesso
STEP 1: First remove the protective backing from the acrylic covers.
STEP 2: Place the covers in an embossing folder and run them through an embossing machine.
STEP 3: Apply alcohol ink to your applicator and dab away on the acrylic covers. Experiment with your colors until you get the desired effect.
STEP 4: If you think the colors turned out too dark, dab on a little blending solution to lighten them. That's the great thing about alcohol inks, you really can't make a mistake.
STEP 5: Once it is dry, turn the acrylic over and brush on a coat of white paint or gesso. Allow to dry and you're done! You can use this as a photo mat or cut it into a particular shape. I added a Dusty Attic chipboard bracket to the top of it to create a decorative element.
