Hi friends! Happy Monday! I am so excited to post my first DT assignment for Get Your Sketch On! (GYSO). GYSO is a new sketch blog with weekly challenges and great prizes. Head on over to GYSO to see the creations of the other DT members.
To the left, you can see this week's sketch created by Bree, the founder of GYSO. She is also the founder of Get Sketchy, our sister site for sketches especially for cards.
I used a combination of old and new BasicGrey papers... the Sublime collection, the Basic Manila collection and the Curio collection. I did a lot of cut work on this layout, using the Curio papers. They are just PERFECT for cutting! In the past I always tried to avoid cutting because to me it was a painstaking process and I wasn't too good at it LOL. But with some practice, it has become a little easier for me and I really enjoyed making this layout.
As for my my title... I remembered the comments of my friends and family when they saw these pictures. They said that it was the first time they have seen me look so happy. They told me that my face is glowing in the pictures, but the most noticeable change in my expression is the look in my eyes. Never before had they seen me look so peaceful and content.
Just a little info on the photos... these pictures were taken in Colombia when my husband and I were still dating. We spent a year and a half in a long distance relationship, and I would fly down to see him every chance I got. You can imagine the joy of being together after months of being apart. :o)
Along the sides of the page, I used a border punch to create the scallop borders and I added eyelets to each hole. I just love the look of metal on a layout! I also hand-stitched along each side for added texture.
I absolutely LOVE this bird cage chippie. I purchased it at Kay's Kreative Korner. Love this etsy; it has such a nice selection of embellies.
The bird on my layout was also cut from the BG Curio papers.
I altered the bird cage by inking it with Distress Ink and then brushing on Perfect Pearls in three different colors to give it a worn look. It's hard to see in the photo, but the Perfect Pearls adds such a nice touch.
Here I attached a Tim Holtz swivel clasp to the bird cage and hung it from a brad.
These gorgeous butterflies were specially made for me by my scrap buddy Kay. Check out her etsy to see all of the unique butterflies and embellies she has for sale.
The leaves and flower were cut from the BG Curio papers as well. Along the top and bottom of the layout I created a wavy border and added some stitching.
I digitally altered this photo. I used a popular quote to overlap the image of us. The quote reads... "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."
